A new freeway exit numbering system has been developed to help unfamiliar drivers and tourists navigate Melbourne's extensive freeway network. A system of easy to read exit numbers will help drivers to quickly position themselves along the freeway they are travelling on. Large easy to see signs will be shown at all exits that have been fitted with the new exit numbering system. Variable message signs will give drivers information and updates regarding incidents or delays that may affect their travel. The closer drivers are to the Melbourne CBD the lower the number. Each location's exit number will be the same in both directions. The easy reference system will gradually be installed across Victoria's urban freeway system. The new freeway exit numbering system is part of the Victorian Transport Plan. Delivering better travel infrastructure for everyone. For more information, visit vicroads.vic.gov.au
